Real Drift Racing is, as you might expect from the title, a Racing game with the focus being on drifting. For those unaware, this is a way to take turns on a track in a way that has your wheels sliding across the ground, causing your car to travel to the side during a turn rather than the direction the car is pointed.
The way the game encourages this is a nebulous points system that awards you more points the more you’re in a drift, so long as you don’t bump into anything or find your car spinning too far. “Races” in the game seem to be more concerned with these points than actually finishing quickest, so I’d describe this as more of a Stunt Racing game than a Racing game.
Of course, the other thing that makes me hesitate to call this a Racing game is the complete lack of other racers on the track. In fact, aside from the game’s two-player split-screen mode, the only thing you’ll be racing against is the clock and a point requirement.
All that would be well and good if the gameplay itself is solid, but unfortunately I can’t recommend this one. Not only do the cars lose control and go into drift with surprisingly slight provocation, but the way they control while in drift doesn’t seem to correspond to any real-like physics as far as I can tell. It’s not fun to control, and in turn just not fun to play.
The game’s graphics and sound don’t do anything to set it apart, either. At best I can say its slightly-cartoony look is at least colorful, but the cars look generic, the levels look uncomplicated and a bit boring, and the entire game feels cheap.
Real Drift Racing is a Racing game that gets the racing wrong and doesn’t really do much right. Not worth your time or money.
tl;dr – Real Drift Racing is a Stunt Racing game where your focus is less on racing and more on having your car drifting as much as possible without spinning out or crashing. Unfortunately, it’s lacking in content, with no other racers onscreen, and the racing itself is terrible. Do not buy.
