Review:
RMX Real Motocross is an off-road Motorbike Racing game released on Nintendo Switch in 2020. It clearly aims to be a low-budget alternative for fans of the genre looking for a game in the “under $10” category.
I have precisely one good thing to say about this game: The framerates and resolution are good. Say what you will about everything else here, but the game is clear and runs smooth as silk.
Oh, it looks terrible, don’t get me wrong. The character models and textures seem like something straight out of the PlayStation 2 era (and early, low-budget PS2, no less), the animations are terrible, and everything has a generic look to it. What’s more, this ugly, terrible presentation takes up 1.5GB of space in the Nintendo Switch’s memory, which makes absolutely no sense.
As for the gameplay, this is a pretty lackluster racing game. There’s not really much nuance here, save for a trick system that seems to have no effect on the gameplay save for its ability to earn you in-game money to unlock bike parts and aesthetic components. But at least it works well enough.
Well… except when it doesn’t. Your in-game bike is picky about what it considers to be a safe landing, and you’ll find yourself bailing repeatedly from what seem to be perfectly fine landings. You don’t seem to have any in-air control over your orientation either, meaning that this is something you’re apparently just expected to accept as something that’s gonna’ happen every now and then. Oh, and while we’re on the topic of complaints, this is a racing game with no multiplayer whatsoever. I don’t know who felt that any of this was a good idea, but it wasn’t.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive racing game on the Nintendo Switch, RMX Real Motocross may look appealing, but it’s not worth the $7. I’m not even sure it’s worth the under $1 price when it goes on sale. It’s simple, broken, and lacking multiplayer. Save your money and get a good racing game instead.
tl;dr – RMX Real Motocross is an inexpensive off-road Motorbike Racing game that lacks any sort of nuance, has broken physics, and has no multiplayer. Skip it.
