Review:
Robby’s Adventure is a challenging Platformer released on PC in 2017 and ported to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2022. This game has players taking control of a small toy robot trying to escape a dangerous factory and find its way back to the boy who befriended it.
For a $2 game, the presentation in Robby’s Adventure is… well, let’s just say you get what you pay for here. After an intro cutscene that feels like it’s pulled straight from the early days of computer animation, you get to gameplay that uses really simple, repetitive 3D visuals with poor animation. Prepare to see a lot of boring brick and concrete warehouses filled with boxes, conveyor belts, and… er, tanks, apparently. All of this is backed by a somber soundtrack that ensures that any excitement you may have going into this game is brought down to a bare minimum.
Unfortunately, after the presentation didn’t do this game any favors, the gameplay won’t save it either. This is a joyless slog of a Platformer. These levels are dull and repetitive, filled with one-hit deaths. What’s more, the platforming itself is joyless – it’s stiff, your jumping height is only just enough to clear the jumps you need to make (and often not even that), the level design is abysmal, and on occasion the game didn’t even respond when I pressed the jump button. And it becomes even more frustrating if you miss a required pickup and need to backtrack to find it.
I’ll cut to the chase – I cannot imagine anyone having fun playing Robby’s Adventure. It’s ugly, the Platforming gameplay is terrible, the game and its levels are a repetitive slog… there’s just nothing to like here. Even at a low price of $2, you’re better off saving your money and buying a better game instead.
tl;dr – Robby’s Adventure is a challenging platformer where you control a robot escaping a factory. Even at $2, this game isn’t worth the price – it’s ugly, the controls are miserable, and the level design is repetitive. Even stripping down this thing for spare parts wouldn’t result in anything worthwhile.
