Review:

Piczle Cells is a family-friendly sliding block-style Puzzle game released on Nintendo Switch in 2021, although in this game you won’t be sliding blocks, but blob-like microscopic organisms. Players complete levels by combining these blobs into bigger blobs.

Piczle Cells features a nice, polished presentation, featuring simple 3D visuals depicting the dancing blue and yellow blobs against a purple background. This is backed by a chill beat that’s not super-catchy, but still helps to make for a relaxed tone to give this game a contemplative feel.

For the gameplay, there’s nothing here that’s truly groundbreaking, but the puzzle design is solid, and the controls are decent, giving players multiple ways to control the game, including using the touchscreen (the touchscreen ultimately being the preferable way to go, even if its detection seemed a bit spotty at times).

However, possibly the most attractive part of this game is the value it represents – you’re paying $5 for 100 puzzles in a polished package, and if you’re looking for an inexpensive Puzzle game to add to your Nintendo Switch collection, Piczle Cells makes for an excellent choice. It’s not going to become your favorite Puzzle game, but for the low price it will make for a decent brain-teaser to play between other games.

tl;dr – Piczle Cells is a block-sliding Puzzle game where players combine microscopic blobs to make bigger blobs. The gameplay is decent but nothing revolutionary. However, the presentation is good and there’s a healthy amount of content here for the low $5 price tag. Puzzle game fans looking to pad out their collection should find this a worthwhile addition to their Nintendo Switch library.
