Review:

Pinstripe is a Puzzle-Platformer with a style that looks reminiscent of films like The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, with a story that has players taking the role of Teddy, a young man chasing after his daughter Bo, who has been kidnapped by the mischievous villain Pinstripe.

This game’s presentation is fantastic. The visuals are striking and the game’s soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful. The game’s story is compelling too, with the “rescue the kidnapped girl” plot clearly just skimming the surface of deeper issues, as the game’s characters all strangely seem to have a history with Teddy, and there’s clearly more going on here than it seems at first.

The gameplay here mixes some really clever puzzles, some decent but not especially challenging platforming, some not very good combat, and some frustrating backtracking. So some good, some bad. On balance, it’s still fun to play, but the main driving force here is clearly the presentation and the story.

So if you’re looking for a great puzzle game or a challenging platformer, you may want to look elsewhere, but if you want a beautiful experience with a compelling story, Pinstripe will definitely be worth a look.

tl;dr – Pinstripe is a Puzzle-Platformer with some good puzzles, but the focus is very clearly on it’s Nightmare Before Christmas-esque presentation and its symbolism-filled story. While the game has its share of frustrations, its positive qualities make it worth experiencing.
