Review:

Pode is a 3D Puzzle-Platformer with a strong co-op element built right into the game’s premise. Players, either on their own or with a friend, control two characters with different abilities and need to think about how to use those abilities together to surpass various obstacles and puzzles.

The game’s visuals aren’t especially impressive, but they’re still pleasant and work well for the game. However, the game’s characters really shine – they’re just an anthopomorphic rock and an anthropomorphic fallen star, yet they both manage to be so cute and have these adorable little interactions with each other that it’s hard not to find them endearing. In addition, the game’s music is really pleasant and mellow, matching the game’s generally mellow, easygoing nature.

The gameplay itself is nothing extraordinary or novel, and the puzzles themselves are fairly standard fare, although it is nice gradually discovering the mechanics of just how the two characters’ abilities work. And the easy puzzles aren’t necessarily a flaw, since that combined with the game’s co-op nature would seem to make this an ideal title for youngsters, or even for a parent to play with their child. The only real criticism I have of the game is the characters’ walking speed, which is frustratingly slow.

However, for the most part, this game is a delightful surprise, and while it doesn’t do anything especially new or impressive, it’s endearing enough to make you smile, and it seems like a good co-op game for youngsters or more casual gamers.

tl;dr – Pode is a nice little co-op Platforming-Puzzle game with endearing characters, pleasant music, and a challenge level that seems like it would be great for parents to play with their kids, or perhaps for a hardcore gamer to play with a casual gamer significant other.
