Review:

Metaloid Origin is an Action-Platformer that reminds me a great deal of the Mega Man X series. It doesn’t have that series’ game structure or weapon upgrade system, but the core gameplay and visual aesthetic that was a large part of what made that series so endearing feels very much on offer here.

That is to say, this game feels really, really good to play. The mechanics of running, jumping, dashing, and shooting all feel great. And while this game doesn’t copy the game structure of the Mega Man X games, it does a few other things that are worthwhile.

Throughout the course of the game, players will be collecting pink gems strewn throughout the levels, as well as from downed enemies. These gems are used to revive you if you use a life, but they’re also used to purchase weapon and equipment upgrades, making players carefully consider before purchasing an upgrade.

It’s a system that works very well, and the game supplements this by giving its levels nonlinear design that encourages exploration, as you might find a nice cache of gems, or even a unique upgrade. And players are encouraged to replay the game multiple times as well, as there are three selectable characters, each with a different loadout.

While nothing in Metaloid Origin really revolutionizes the genre, pretty much everything here is done well. The game looks great, plays great, and is overall a quality game that fans of old-school games, especially the Mega Man series, should absolutely have in their collection.

tl;dr – Metaloid is an Action-Platformer with gameplay that seems straight out of the Mega Man X series, although this game takes a completely different approach to its game structure and weapon upgrades. Fans of classic 16-bit era action-platformers should definitely give this game a look.
