Review:

Millie and Molly is a Puzzle-Platformer first released on the Commodore 64 in 2020 (yes, you read that right), ported to mobile devices later that same year, and then ported to Nintendo Switch in 2022. This game has players taking the role of two elderly sisters working to kill a room full of monsters because… well, I guess just because.

The visuals here make use of a simple pixel art style, giving players an option of an “8-Bit Mode” and a “16-Bit Mode). The visuals themselves are a bit bland and repetitive-looking, but get the job done well enough, I suppose. This is backed by a similarly bland chiptune soundtrack.

As for the gameplay, there’s really not much to say here. The two characters cannot take damage, and can only fail if they mistakenly make a move that makes a stage unsolvable. Players can opt to rewind time or reset a puzzle to correct for such errors. Later, when using both sisters, players can tap a button to swap between them. Beyond that, it’s a pretty standard old-school Puzzle-Platformer (albeit one without jumping).

There’s just not much to say about Millie and Molly. It’s a bog-standard Puzzle-Platformer game, and its most interesting quality is its origin as a modern Commodore 64 game. However, that doesn’t make the game itself any better, and as such, this game has more value as a piece of trivia than as an actual game.

tl;dr – Millie and Molly is a Puzzle-Platformer with a retro art style that’s pretty standard and not really noteworthy in any significant way outside of its curious Commodore 64 origins. However, those are hardly a reason to buy this game instead of multiple other better games on the Nintendo Switch.

Grade: C
