Multi Quiz is a Party Game released on Nintendo Switch in 2021. As the name implies, this is a Trivia Game that has players answering questions in various categories.

The presentation here is clean and fairly simple, featuring a blurred background with various objects floating around, and a subdued synthesized soundtrack, with the focus of the game clearly being on the trivia itself. It’s not exactly an exciting presentation, but it works.

As for the trivia itself, it’s fine, but there’s not much to it. Players can choose which categories to include before starting, but can’t change the rules, determine the number of wins/losses to victory, or anything like that. The rules will always be the same – this is a three-strike elimination game, with ties going to the fastest player. Try to be the last one standing as other players are eliminated by wrong answers to questions, or in single player try to last through as many questions as you can.

Questions are always multiple-choice between four choices (mapped to the face buttons on your controller), and you only occasionally have a minor visual aid, such as a rendering of a flag you need to identify. That’s it. Bland, boring… it gets the job done, but not much more than that.

The lack of options and the overall blandness of the game is really depressing, but it’s not the only problem here. Many of the questions seem to depend on a context that’s not specifically stated. Namely, Disney movies – one question asks the name of Hercules’ trainer and players are meant to answer “Philoctetes”, a character from the film that has very little to do with the myth the film’s characters are based on. Another question asks for the names of Hades’ minions, Pain and Panic… who again were only in Disney’s animated film. In both cases, the question does not specify that it is asking about Disney’s movie.

Another odd quirk of this game that I cannot account for is that it has an M-rating for “Strong Language”, despite that I did not see anything to warrant this in the time I was playing it. Having said that, I hardly think this is a game for children, unless those children have an encyclopedic knowledge of world flags, animal biology, and obscure sports facts.

However, despite all its odd quirks, in the end what really sinks Multi Quiz is still its blandness and lack of options. This is largely a perfectly functional Trivia Game, but it’s also a perfectly boring one. If you want something to test the trivia knowledge of up to four people, this will do it, but if you want something that’s actually, you know… fun, you’re better off going with one of the Jackbox games.

tl;dr – Multi Quiz is a Party Game that is, as the title indicates, also a Trivia Game. It works, but it’s also dreadfully boring and extremely lacking in features. Unless you want a game that’s just trivia with no frills or features, you’re better off skipping this one.
