Mutant Mudds Collection is a compilation of Mutant Mudds Deluxe, Mutant Mudds Super Challenge, and Mudd Blocks. The first Mutant Mudds game was originally released on the 3DS in 2012, with the game getting higher-quality visuals when ported to other platforms with “Deluxe” tacked on to the title. This was followed by the sequel, Mutant Mudds Super Challenge, in 2016, and with these games being included the along with the new Mudd Blocks Puzzle Game in the compilation package Mutant Mudds Collection released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch in 2017.

Here is what I thought of each game in this collection:

GameGenre# of PlayersGrade
Mutant Mudds DeluxePlatformer1, Online LeaderboardsB+
tl;drMutant Mudds is a Platformer with Action-Platformer elements that was clearly inspired by Virtual Boy Wario Land, with its multi-plane gameplay that has you jumping into the background and foreground. While the Nintendo Switch version loses some of the 3D wow factor the original had, it still makes for a unique visual element, and the gameplay here is overall very good, albeit not terribly original and a little slow-paced. Still, those looking for an enjoyable Platformer should find this one to be well worth playing.
Mutant Mudds Super ChallengePlatformer1, Online LeaderboardsB
tl;drMutant Mudds Super Challenge is somewhere between a sequel to Mutant Mudds and a challenge map pack. Not much has changed from the first game, but the difficulty level has ramped up a notch. It’s still a solid Platformer, but not quite on the same level as its predecessor.
Mudd BlocksFalling Block Puzzle Game1-2 Competitive (Local), Online LeaderboardsA-
tl;drA re-skin of the Nintendo 3DS game Bomb Monkey, Mudd Blocks is a Puzzle game that combines elements of Puyo Puyo and Puzzle Fighter, as well as throwing in row and column-clearing explosive boxes that can make for some great combo potential. While it isn’t quite as addictive as some of the best games in the genre, Mudd Blocks is nevertheless a phenomenal entry in the genre, well worth a look for Puzzle fans.

In short, all three games in this collection are well worth playing, but the real surprise here is Mudd Blocks. You would be tempted to think a themed Puzzle game tossed into a collection of Platformers would be a disposable inclusion to pad out the package, but Mudd Blocks is quite possibly the best part of this collection, and one you’re most likely to return to even after beating the other games. It also features a good variety of game modes.

And while this collection is short on extra features (this is just the three games, with leaderboards and not much else), it’s still a phenomenal value at $15 for the whole package, given that the two platformers have each sold individually for $10 each, and honestly I think $15 would be a decent price for just Mudd Blocks alone. With the three of them combined, $15 is an excellent price, well worth taking advantage of.

All told, Mutant Mudds Collection is a solid trio of games at an excellent price, and while none of these games truly pushes their respective genres forward, they’re all well-crafted games that are fun to play and do some interesting things with their genre. Fans of both Platformers and Puzzle games should definitely give it a look.

tl;dr – Mutant Mudds Collection is a compilation of the two Mutant Mudds Platformer games and a Puzzle game, with all three being good entries in their respective genres, and the collection overall being a fantastic value.
