Review:
MXGP3 is a Motorbike racing game that aims to be a serious and professional game in the genre, but honestly, there are so many compromises here that it’s hard to take this game seriously.
In the gameplay department, the game controls well enough, but there is little to no tutorial to tell you how to effectively ride. I’ll freely admit to not being great at this sort of game on a good day, but at the very least I have some way of knowing why I’m playing badly. In this game, I’m left in the dust without any clue how to get better.
Still, I can appreciate when a game has a lot of love and care put into it, and… yeah, this one definitely doesn’t. The game looks muddy, ugly, doesn’t shine with any strong personality or details. In fact, the game has such poor textures and framerates, I would have told you it looked terrible if it were released on the Wii ten years ago.
However, the real nail in the coffin here is how even with the terrible graphics of the Switch version of this game, the Switch version is lacking features as well, with roughly half of the competitors compared to other versions of the game, and as if that wasn’t enough, the Switch version even commits the cardinal sin of racing games by not having any multiplayer mode.
MXGP3 is simply not a good motocross game, and it’s a terrible port. If you’re really wanting good motorbike racing on the Switch, get Monster Energy Supercross 2 – it ain’t perfect, but it’s a far sight better than this in just about every way.
tl;dr – MXGP3 is a motorbike racing game that looks terrible, doesn’t play especially well, and has had all sorts of features stripped out of it from other versions of the game, including multiplayer. If you want motorbike racing on the Switch, you have better options.
