Review:

Nice Slice is a simple physics-based Arcade-style game where players control a knife hovering above food that keeps appearing. As the knife automatically scrolls back and forth, players time their button presses to ensure that the knife comes down when it is over food.

Visually, this game has the simple, cartoony look of a smartphone game (though as far as I can tell, this isn’t actually a smartphone port). This, combined with some forgettable music and some actually decent whish-chop sounds makes for a presentation that feels pretty disposable, but suffices for the gameplay.

As for that gameplay… well, this game isn’t exactly shooting very high. It’s very simple, very repetitive, and even within those bounds it doesn’t always hit the mark. One problem I encountered is that the knife only goes down so far, meaning that sometimes it’ll count as a miss even if you’re directly over something to cut. Add to this a lack of variety, and you have a game that you’ll likely get bored with in minutes.

Even for a simple Arcade-style game, Nice Slice is simple, repetitive, and ultimately not very engaging. If you’re looking for something simple and fun on the Switch, you have plenty of better options.

tl;dr – Nice Slice is a physics-based Arcade-style game where you time button presses to send a hovering knife down to chop up food. It’s simple, repetitive, and even if your aim is good, the way the knife doesn’t go all the way down means a hit can still register as a miss. The result is a game you’ll quickly lose interest in.
