Review:

Ninja Striker! Is a family-friendly Action-Platformer first released on mobile devices in 2013 and ported to PC and Nintendo Switch in 2018. This game has players slashing through enemies at high speed in levels with a linear design.

Ninja Striker! Features retro 8-bit-style pixel art graphics that work well for the game, using colorful visuals and expressive cartoony character designs that do a good job complimenting the game’s fast-paced action. The game’s visuals are backed by a decent chiptune soundtrack that similarly does a good job of capturing the sort of retro feel this game is going for.

When it comes to the gameplay, I will say that the one thing this game immediately impressed on me was just what a joy it was to move around and attack enemies. Players can jump, double jump, cling to walls and ceilings, use a homing attack, and use a character-specific special attack that’s different for each of the four main characters. This is all simple, easy to use, fairly forgiving, and above all else fast, giving players a real feeling of power as they breeze through levels.

In fact, the ease with which players can blast through enemies is probably the game’s biggest flaw, as many levels seem to almost play themselves with how easy they are to progress through. However, there are two ways this game manages to keep from being a total cakewalk – firstly, occasional boss stages actually require some degree of strategy to defeat. And secondly, the game seems like it was designed with speed-runners and perfectionists in mind and as a result, players looking for a challenge can find one not in defeating the game’s levels, but seeing how fast they can do so while trying to take out as many enemies and grab as many bonus point pickups as possible.

In the end, Ninja Striker! may be fairly simple and easy as Action-Platformers go, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing – it’s a blast to play, and players who desire a challenge can find one in trying to speed through the levels as quickly and efficiently as possible. What’s more, at $4, this game is a real bargain, and players looking for a fun and simple fast-paced Action game would do well to give it a try.

tl;dr – Ninja Striker! Is a fast-paced family-friendly retro-style Action-Platformer where players breeze through the game’s levels attacking one enemy after another. It’s a game that threatens to be a bit too easy at times, and can even feel like it’s on autopilot, but players can find a challenge in the bosses and in speed-running the game, and it’s just so fun to move around and blast through the game’s levels that I’d argue this game is well worth the miniscule $4 price tag. Definitely give it a try.
