Review:
No Thing is an Arcade-style First-Person Endless Runner game where you are moving down a path and turn 90 degrees left or right to not fall off. It’s fairly simple gameplay that’s made confusing with a bizarre presentation.
This game uses a low-poly presentation with a greatly limited color palette, apparently to evoke the feel or a retro-futuristic virtual reality landscape. To further this presentation, a digitized voice will spout off odd, nonsensical dialogue to you as you run. It’s… um, well, it’s definitely a unique presentation, but I don’t really see it as appealing in any way.
Unfortunately, the gameplay doesn’t pick up the slack here. It’s really just “turn left/turn right”, and what’s more, you’re running around on a looping track, meaning that you’re not even getting anywhere new or interesting. Plus, the game doesn’t allow for quick, minor adjustments, meaning that if you’re farther to one side than you’d like, you’re not going to be nudging yourself over to prepare for your next turn.
In the end, I found myself wondering just what the heck is the point of No Thing. Its repetitive, simplistic gameplay isn’t compelling, its odd and off-putting presentation doesn’t seem to be serving any purpose. There are plenty of other better ways to spend your time and money, and even though this game is a bit of an oddity, it’s not really one worth bothering with.
tl;dr – No Thing is an Endless Runner-style Arcade game where you’re turning 90 degrees left and right to navigate a looping course without falling off, with a somewhat off-putting retro-futuristic VR-esque presentation. This game is simple and repetitive and ugly, and I see little reason for anyone to bother with it.
