Review:

One Eyed Kutkh is a Graphic Adventure with a simplistic presentation and a unique look that depicts the story of an alien crash-landing and trying to repair its ship.

The first thing players will notice about this game is that its visual presentation is actually quite nice, with simple 2D graphics that look like paper cut-outs with striking colors and little hand-drawn sketches adorning them. The sound… less so, with a minimal soundtrack that doesn’t do much to encourage enthusiasm for the game.

As for the gameplay, whenever a game simplifies things, removing any text or verbal communication with the player, it seems like it can go one of two ways – either this can streamline the process and make it much cleaner and more efficient… or it can make things more confusing, without any clear communication what to do or how to do it. In One Eyed Kutkh, the simplicity dumps this game into the latter category, with players having a vague idea of what to do, but unsure of how they’re supposed to be doing it. This confusion starts right from the get-go, as the game has you fumbling around with a spaceship’s controls, uncertain if you’re actually getting anything done. Eventually my ship crashed and i went on with the story, so I guess I did? But I’m still not sure if I just needed to fumble with it for a while or if I actually did something to cause the game to move on.

The other issue here is that this game is excruciatingly slow-paced, with your characters lowly walking, climbing, and crawling where you direct him, and when someone has something to say, you’re spending much more time watching the little pictograms depicting it than if they just came out and said it. This is a very short game (under an hour), and I feel like much of my time spent playing it was just waiting for things to happen.

It’s a shame One Eyed Kutkh has all of these issues, because I do like the presentation, and this minimalist style, if better utilized, could have made for a fantastic game. However, as it is, this game was an absolute slog full of frustration and I cannot recommend it.

tl;dr – One Eyed Kutkh is a minimalistic Graphic Adventure that has you guiding an alien to try to fix his crashed space ship. It has a wonderful presentation, but the game is an absolute slog, and the minimalist presentation only makes it confusing and frustrating to play. Don’t bother with this one.
