Review:
(Note: This game is no longer available on the Nintendo Switch.)
Onigiri is an MMO Action-RPG where you play a wandering warrior assisting a mythical Japan to fend of monsters. It is Free-To-Play, and while there may be microtransactions involved here, I didn’t encounter them being pushed during my brief time playing this game.
I say “brief” because I could only tolerate this game for so long before having to shut it off. This game is just… busted. The characters are super laggy to the point that every command you send to them takes a second or two to register, instructions are unclear, character animations don’t give you a good feel of how your attacks differ… this game is an absolute mess.
On top of all of this is a menu interface that seems hastily slapped-together – this game was clearly intended for the PC with a mouse, and using the controller to navigate menus is a chore – the control stick moves around a virtual mouse, and the D-Pad moves from one option to another, but it doesn’t always work properly.
On top of this, the graphics are sub-par, and the entire presentation seems so slipshod that it feels like this is an early build of a game.
If you have a Switch and are absolutely hurting for a game to play that costs zero dollars… get Color Zen or Warframe, or get Fortnite. But don’t get Onigiri. This game is broken to the point where it’s damn near unplayable.
tl;dr – Onigiri is a MMO Action-RPG that is Free-To-Play. However, the game is broken in multiple ways, with horrendous lag, terrible interface problems, and an overall look and feel that screams that this is an unfinished product that probably needed years more time in development. Even for a free game, you can get better on the Switch.
