Review:

Origamihero Games 2D Platformer Collection, released on Nintendo Switch in 2022, is a Compilation of Smash Star, Treasure Hunter Man 2, and Unstrong Legacy, all released on Nintendo Switch earlier in 2022.

Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:

tl;dr Smash Star is a Platformer where you play as a cat-man throwing a star-person to grab and throw enemies. This is a decent but not great retro-style Platformer and while it’s not bad, its biggest selling point is a price tag under $2. Beyond that, this is a fairly mediocre Platformer.
Treasure Hunter Man 2	Metroidvania	1	B
tl;dr Treasure Hunter Man 2 is a $2 budget-priced Metroidvania that’s actually pretty decent despite the small price and generic name. It doesn’t do anything particularly unique or spectacular, but what’s here is good, and definitely worth adding to your collection if you’re a fan of the genre.
Unstrong Legacy	Metroidvania	1	B-
tl;dr Unstrong Legacy is a $2 budget-priced Metroidvania that’s actually pretty decent despite the budget price. It doesn’t do anything particularly unique or spectacular, and the platforming is sub-par, but otherwise what’s here is good, and definitely worth adding to your collection if you’re a fan of the genre.

The short version is that while none of these games is great, all of them are at least decent, with Treasure Hunter Man 2, surprisingly, being the best of the bunch. Ordinarily, “decent” wouldn’t mean much on the Nintendo Switch, a platform that has an embarrassment of riches for players who love Platformers and Metroidvanias. However, each of these games does have one distinct advantage compared to all of those – they’re dirt cheap, with all three games separately selling on the eShop for under $2.

Of course, that leads me to the next thing to address for this bundle, the price and value. At just over $4, this bundle’s price is basically like dropping the cost of one of the three included games, when these games were already priced at a bargain bin low. As such, I think it’s fair to say that this is a pretty good deal overall.

Is price the only real reason to get these games? No, both Metroidvanias in this package, Treasure Hunter Man 2 and Unstrong Legacy, are well worth trying out, even if neither is likely to make waves in the genre. And Smash Star should offer at least some enjoyment, even if it’s not quite on par with the others. However, clearly one of the biggest selling points here is the price, and with such a low price tag, Origamihero Games 2D Platformer Collection is worth picking up for any fan of Metroidvanias just for the value of this package alone.

tl;dr – Origamihero Games 2D Platformer Collection includes the Platformer Smash Star, along with the Metroidvania games Treasure Hunter Man 2 and Unstrong Legacy. The Metroidvania games are pretty good, but what’s really special about this package is its outstanding price. For just over $4, this is a solid collection of content well worth getting.
