Review:

Krispain Hero, released in 2022 on Nintendo Switch, features a word salad of a subtitle that appears to be constructed full of buzzwords that the creator of this game must have thought looked good, regardless of whether they actually described this game. Let’s go through them one by one, shall we?

Roguelite – No. Just because this game has randomized levels, enemies, and weapons does not make it a Roguelite. Heck, it doesn’t even make it a Roguelike.

Dungeon – Not in the strictest sense, no. You fight medieval creatures in medieval settings while wielding your decidedly modern weaponry, but from what I’ve seen of this game, those settings are in the courtyards of castles, and in caves, not in proper dungeons. In the colloquial videogamey sense, I suppose you could say this game’s areas are dungeons in that they are linear areas where you fight enemies, but that’s… not exactly descriptive.

Shooter – Yes, you do shoot things. There’s not really any nuance or skill to it. You’re basically going to either duck behind cover to avoid fire from projectile-spewing enemies, or you’ll be firing while walking backwards from enemies that charge you for melee attacks. Not particularly exciting stuff.

Fire Simulator – This game is about as far as you can get from anything resembling a “simulator”. I didn’t notice any “fire”, either, unless you count gunfire, which we’ve already covered.

Counter FPS – Is this a reference to the game Counter-Strike? I’m not sure, but if so, know that this game plays nothing like Counter-Strike. It’s single-player, linear, and the only goal is to kill all enemies before moving on.

World – Again, not unless you go with the loosest way of defining this descriptor by saying “yes, this game takes place in a world of some kind”. That world isn’t notably vast or impressive, though – everything is rendered in low-polygon mostly flat-shaded 3D, with brief hitches in the framerate every time enemies load on-screen, with sound only coming from attacks (no sounds for ammo and health pickups), and no music except on the menu screens. This hardly feels expansive enough to justify the word “world”.

Hero – No, this game will not make you feel like a hero. It will make you feel like you’re shooting things from cover, shooting things while running backwards, and occasionally groaning in frustration as you get caught on scenery or the enemy AI. When the game works as intended, it will feel repetitive and boring, and when it doesn’t it will be infuriating.

There you go. Out of all the 10 words in this title, pretty much only “Krispain”, “Shooter”, and “FPS” are accurate descriptors… and I’m being generous there since “Krispain” isn’t a word. However, even if the entire ridiculous title of this game were accurate, it would still be a bad game. Don’t play it.

tl;dr – Krispain Hero is a First-Person Shooter with a ridiculous extended title, but all it boils down to is a game that’s tedious, repetitive, unimpressive, unoriginal, and boring. In short, there are likely more words in this game’s title than minutes you will enjoy playing this game.
