Review:

Lines X and its successor Lines Infinite are such similar games that I’m now going to copy-paste the majority of these reviews. I mean, if they can do it, why can’t I, right?

Lines is a puzzle game that has you connecting various colored dots in a grid to other similarly-colored dots, all while filling every spot on the grid and not crossing those lines. It’s a formula that’s already been done countless times on the Switch, but I suppose here’s another one.

To the game’s credit, it does boast a nice, minimalist presentation. Nothing extraordinary, but it feels a bit classy. There’s also some nice, soothing music to go along with your play.

Unfortunately, the minimalist approach also hurts the game. It would have been nice to be able to select a color scheme, or have some sort of options regarding the presentation. However, aside from the level select and a pause menu where you can turn sound and music on and off, this game has nothing beyond the puzzles – not even a title screen.

Also, while we’re on the topic of complaints, this game’s controls feel a bit stiff. It’s not enough to ruin the game, but it is annoying. At the very least playing this game in portable mode allows the use of the touchscreen, which is clearly how the game was intended to be played in the first place.

Both Lines X and Lines Infinite have 100 puzzles, with Infinite also adding in randomized puzzles after completing the initial batch. Infinite also numbers the dots, though they can still be completed in any order – something I suppose will be helpful for those who are colorblind. With this being the case, Lines Infinite ends up being the better game of the two, although again I stress that for the most part these two games are identical.

Lines X is a decent puzzle game, but it’s one of countless games like this, and while it offers a nice presentation, it’s also feature-poor and has stiff controls. If you’re looking for something inexpensive to kill time, you could do worse. But if you’re looking for a quality puzzle game, you could do much better.

tl;dr – Lines Infinite is a Puzzle game that has you filling a grid by matching like-colored dots with lines. It has a nice, minimalist presentation, but is lacking options. It’s okay, but largely unspectacular.
