Review:

Lotus Bloom is a family-friendly Puzzle game released on PC in 2021 and ported to Nintendo Switch later that same year. This game has players connecting colored orbs to diamond-shaped light emitters to shine light on colored lotus flowers.

The presentation here is fairly simple but pleasant, using simple 2D visuals with a nice pastel color palette and backing that with subdued sound effects and placid instrumental music. The result is something that feels relaxed and peaceful, although I will say I felt that this game’s palette looked washed-out on the Nintendo Switch’s screen in handheld mode..

The gameplay here is extraordinarily simple, yet it manages to have some hidden depths to it. Contiguous orbs can be connected to power an adjacent emitter, shining light in the direction opposite the adjacent orb. However, that light only goes as far as the number of orbs connected to it, and only in the direction opposite from where the orbs are. Using this, players must shine light to re-color orbs to ensure that they can have enough orbs to power emitters facing the right direction to reach the lotus of the same color.

This gameplay here controls well enough with the gamepad or touchscreen, though it seems like this is the sort of game made for the touchscreen. And I should note that while this game only has 48 levels, it’s also a game that only sells for $3, and at that price what’s here seems worth it.

There’s not really much else I can say about this game. Lotus Bloom is a simple but solid Puzzle game that makes good use of its premise for some clever puzzles. Its simple nature and somewhat short length marks this as a bite-size entry in the genre, but it comes with a fittingly bite-size brice, and for the low price of $3 I think this is worth a look for Puzzle game fans, even if you’re likely to blast through it quickly.

tl;dr – Lotus Bloom is a Puzzle game that has players using colored orbs to power diamond-shaped emitters to shine light on similarly colored lotus flowers. It’s a simple Puzzle game but one with surprisingly clever puzzles. It’s also short, but reasonably-priced at $3. Puzzle fans looking for a short but sweet entry in the genre would do well to check this out.
