Review:

LOVE is a challenging platformer with extremely simple graphics. There’s no story or even a theme, this is just pure platforming.

The graphics here are extremely simple, presented with single-colored pixel art platforms against a black background, with occasional interactive elements in white, and that’s it. Some levels do have some degree of ornamentation in the platforms, but overall this is a game with visuals that feel extremely old-school. However, that being said, they do at least look sharp and make the gameplay the focus.

As for that gameplay, the platforming in this game is pretty good, even if it doesn’t do anything especially original with the genre. This game has good controls and some really good level design, although there are definitely parts where it can be punishingly difficult, with pixel-precise platforming being required. The default mode in the game has you trying to complete 16 levels with 100 lives, and I’d wager I expended two-thirds of that life count by the end of it.

Oh, on that note, this is a very, very, very short game. Completing the game’s main mode and bonus levels will take players between a half an hour to an hour, unless they struggle so much with some of the game’s more difficult areas that they need to restart. Now, to be fair, the game is set up to cater to speed runners and players wanting to challenge themselves, and it’s selling for a measly $3, but even so, it’s surprising how quickly this game can be played through.

In the end, LOVE is a game that focuses everything it has into one short burst of challenging gameplay. This is absolutely not a game for everyone – the extremely short length, high difficulty, and simplistic graphics will turn off a lot of players. However, if you’re looking for a short platformer to challenge yourself with, this might be a game you’ll want to try.

tl;dr – LOVE is a challenging Platformer with extremely simple graphics, a high difficulty level, and a short play time. It is not for everyone, but players looking for a smaller platformer to challenge themselves might find it to their liking.
