Review:

Machinarium is a Graphic Adventure that has you controlling a small robot as he works his way through a strange land with odd puzzles and mechanical devices.

The visuals in this game are phenomenal, with incredibly detailed hand-drawn characters and backgrounds. A part of the joy of playing this game is seeing each new location, and the other part is the game’s sense of humor and its puzzles, all conveyed wordlessly to the player. Often, you must think of the best way to use the game’s strange machines, or think of ways to get your stretchy robot to interact with the environment, or unique ways to use or combine the items you find.

Of course, while the game’s lack of any use of language adds to its charm, it is also a part of one of its biggest problems. As with many games of this sort, it’s easy to get stuck in places, and while the game has a hint system to help you with this, it’s not always very clear what it’s asking you to do.

However, while Machinarium doesn’t avoid one of the core frustrations of its genre, it’s still one of the best games of its kind, filled with creativity and humor, and some really ingenious puzzles. For those who enjoy this sort of game, it is absolutely worth playing.

tl;dr – Machinarium is a Graphic Adventure that tasks you with controlling a wordless robot as he ventures through a strange land filled with unusual puzzles. It’s funny and inventive, and while its odd nature makes it easy to get stuck in places, it’s such a charming game you’ll want to power through those moments to see each new quirky character and surreal locale. Definitely worth a look.
