Gato Roboto is a Metroidvania-style game with a black-and-white pixel art presentation that has you playing as a cat in a crash-landed ship that pilots a mech to explore the planet looking for a way to repair the ship.
The gameplay here is pretty good, with a cool mechanic of having your cat frequently have to jump out of the mech to explore areas the mech is too big to go, or otherwise unable to get to.
However, the game isn’t without its problems. There are difficulty spikes at some of the game’s bosses, and the black and white presentation, while not unappealing, can sometimes make it hard to see objects. Also, can someone tell me how a black-and-white game with pixel art graphics and nothing special going on in the sound department can take up half a gig of space on my memory card? For comparison, Super Metroid clocked in at 24MB, so this file size is pretty ridiculous.
On balance, Gato Roboto is a decent Metroidvania, although given that the Nintendo Switch is absolutely flooded with Metroidvanias, this is one that probably only the most die-hard genre fans will want to get.
tl;dr – Gato Roboto is a Metroidvania about a cat exploring an alien world using a mech. The gameplay here is decent, but difficulty spikes and the game’s simplistic black-and-white pixel art presentation mar the experience.
