Review:

The oddly-named Get 10 Quest is a family-friendly Unlimited Pattern Puzzle released on Nintendo Switch in 2020 and later ported to Xbox One. This game starts with simple gameplay that we’ve all seen in countless mobile Puzzle games before – click on one colored tile to remove all adjacent tiles of the same color. However, this game adds a twist in that each color also has an associated number, and the place where you click will create a block of the next number in the sequence.

Because of the sort of game this is, there’s no much to say about the presentation. It’s colorful, the numbers are easy enough to read, but it’s just blocks with numbers, nothing more to see here. At the very least, the music that plays in the background is pretty catchy, and its plucky tune works well with this game’s gameplay. Although… at one point there was an odd sound effect where I heard a “sir, yes sir!” and gunfire noises, which was… really odd.

As for that gameplay, giving players the ability to create new blocks in addition to just clearing them gives this sort of Puzzle game new life, with added utility for the player to shape the puzzle. Having said that… yeah, the random number generator that causes random blocks to fall still plays a disproportionately large role in the gameplay here, at times playing the key role in determining whether you’ll be able to continue on or get stuck.

At the very least I can say that the gameplay here is still quite compelling, and I could easily see this being a great time waster for a few minutes or even long stretches of time. The inclusion of both puzzles with set tasks as well as an endless mode is nice, and this game makes excellent use of the touchscreen, though using the gamepad to move the cursor works well enough too. I do wish there were more in the way of options here, but for $3, it’s hard to complain too much.

In the end, Get 10 Quest doesn’t revolutionize Puzzle games, but it does make a very nice twist on an old formula that makes for a really catchy little Puzzle game experience that’s well worth the $3 price tag. If you’re a fan of the genre, give it a look.

tl;dr – Get 10 Quest is a family-friendly Puzzle game that takes the old “click a block to remove all adjacent blocks of that color” gameplay and gives it a twist by having players creating new blocks as they do so. While randomness still plays more of a role than I’d like here, this nevertheless manages to be an excellent Puzzle game that’s well worth its $3 price tag.
