Review:
Graviter is a Puzzle game released on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2021 where players are tasked with changing the locations and sizes of planets in a section of space to alter the gravity in the area so that a flying object passes through any kitty footprints in the level representing the path of a lost kitten in a space suit.
The presentation here is simple, but it works well enough for the game, with everything depicted being a basic 2D object, and with the projected path of the projectile changing in real-time as you alter the planets in each given level. This is backed by a subdued instrumental score which takes a back seat to the gameplay.
As for that gameplay, as you might imagine, this is something of a physics playground where players have some degree of ability to toy around with different elements to mess with gravity, depending on the level. They also have some limited capacity to freeze everything and rearrange the planets again to alter the path mid-flight, again based on the level. There are other elements added into the puzzles later, and overall, this is a solid foundation for a Puzzle game that this game uses well.
Players can play this game using either traditional gamepad controls, which work well, or they can use touchscreen controls, which seem like the sort of thing this game would have been designed around, but in practice it varies – planets you move around allow for much nicer direct control using the touchscreen, but planets you’re resizing are a bit more difficult to control in this mode.
At $8 for 100 levels, Graviter seems just a tad on the pricey side for both puzzles and a presentation.that are this simple. Not bad, but not great. Really, what seems like it would have been ideal is if this game included a sort of puzzle creation kit or something like that. At least, that would be high on my wishlist for this game if I had my way.
However, as-is, Graviter is a solid Puzzle game with some decent puzzles and overall good gravity-focused gameplay. Fans of the genre will likely find this game to be delightful, especially if they can catch it on sale.
tl;dr – Graviter is a Puzzle game that has players altering planets in space to alter gravity and change the trajectory of a projectile. It’s a simple but solid Puzzle game, but at $8 for 100 levels, this seems a bit pricey to me. Still, Puzzle game fans will likely enjoy this game, especially if they can catch it on sale.
