Review:

Guns, Gore, and Cannoli is an action-platformer that combines the Prohibition-era Mafia gangster genre with the Zombie apocalypse genre, putting you in the role of a Mafia enforcer wading through an army of undead corpses to take out a hit.

The action in this game plays out as a pretty typical action-platformer, albeit one with a fun, cartoony presentation and a lot of movie references. The characters in this game are very broad Mafia tropes, and the game as a whole clearly doesn’t take itself too seriously.

As for the action itself, it’s mostly decent, fairly typical stuff, although I do have a few complaints. Namely, since weapons in this game require reloading, swapping weapons on the fly becomes absolutely important, and unlike most games, this one maps the reload function to the R button, putting weapon switching on face buttons. The game does not let you remap these controls. Suffice it to say, this game had me struggling against years of muscle memory, with me hurriedly trying to reload and swapping weapons, or trying to swap weapons and reloading.

Beyond that, it’s just overall a fairly repetitive game. There is some variety in enemy types, but mostly you’ll move forward a bit, fight off some zombies, move forward a bit, fight off some zombies… the game could really stand to shake things up a bit more than this.

Still, despite the control issues and repetition, Guns, Gore, and Cannoli is a decent action-platformer. There’s a nice presentation here, and if you have friends that can join in, even better. It’s nothing special, but it’s okay.

tl;dr – Guns, Gore, and Cannoli is an Action-Platformer that combines zombies and the Mafia, and the result is a decent entry in the genre, albeit one that’s a bit repetitive and has some frustrating control issues.
