Review:
Hardway Party is a two-button Arcade-style game where you are laying down roads on islands before a car can pass over them. You do this by choosing to hold down left or right, and the new road spins out in front of the existing road in that direction. You release the button to place the road. You lose if the car gets to the road before you place it, if you drop the road somewhere it can’t be placed (like over the water), or if the road comes into contact with an obstruction.
This game’s concept is interesting, but the execution leaves something to be desired. The pacing of this game feels too fast, the difficulty curve too steep, and the game doesn’t even let players quickly drop a few roads to build up a bit of breathing room – the car inexplicably speeds up if the game sees you getting too far ahead of it. The result is, you will lose. A lot.
At least graphically, the game looks appealing, with its simple, cartoony visuals, though i found the game’s music to be grating.
I saw some potential here for something interesting, but Hardway Party’s inflated challenge simply makes this game not fun to play. Avoid it.
tl;dr – Hardway Party is a two-button Arcade-style game where you’re laying down sections of road on islands before they’re used by an oncoming car. Unfortunately, the game’s challenge curve is absurdly steep, and the game just isn’t fun to play.
