Review:
Headland, released on mobile devices in 2020 and ported to PC and Nintendo Switch in 2022, is a family-friendly Action-RPG that has players taking the role of a guy named Nor who heads off to another world to help his robot friends recover an “imagination core” stolen by an evil… worm thing.
Yeah, the story here isn’t particularly inspiring, and for that matter neither is the rest of the presentation, using pretty simple 3D visuals backed by a decent but not all that memorable instrumental soundtrack.
In fact, overall Headland doesn’t seem to have a lot going for it. The game is level based, so there’s little in the way of exploration. There’s not any great variety of loot to obtain like you would find in a game like Diablo. The combat is fairly simple and not especially good, certainly not compared to the likes of games like Hades. I suppose the game is relatively accessible to younger and less-experienced players, but even so there’s just not much here for them to latch onto.
I could see some people enjoying Headland as a fun time-waster, with bite-size bits of Action-RPG among bigger, more interesting fare. But this isn’t a game you’re likely to find very engaging, or even remember a few years from now. This may not be a bad game, but you have other, better options.
tl;dr – Headland is a family-friendly Action-RPG about a guy who heads off to another world at the behest of his robot friends. This isn’t a bad entry in the genre, but it’s an extremely simple and somewhat generic one. You may find some enjoyment here, but there are plenty of better options available to you on the Nintendo Switch.
