Review:

Hidden Bunny, released in 2023 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, is a family-friendly “Hidden Object”-style Puzzle game, though unlike what the name indicates, Hidden Bunny’s bunnies are not actually hidden. They’re right out in the open, or at worst poking their head out of trees or clipping into a wall.

Yeah, this game isn’t very well put-together – characters are floating in mid-air in some places, some are endlessly walking in place. Behind one mountain you see the corner of a gate poking out at an odd angle for no discernable reason… this is just amateurish stuff.

Individually, each of the elements of this game’s presentation seem fine. The various 3D animal characters are fairly detailed and animate well, and the background music is a pleasant steel drum melody. However, seeing how all of these elements have been carelessly slapped together, it’s hard not to think that we’re looking at the result of someone buying a bunch of assets from an asset store and quickly slotting them into a poorly-made game.

The gameplay here works well enough, I suppose – move your cursor over the objects you’re looking for and press the A button, rinse and repeat, and you can use the right analog stick to zoom in if need be. That’s it. These objects aren’t difficult to find. There’s no environmental interaction, and there aren’t so many things happening on-screen that this is like a Where’s Waldo-style puzzle. Find all of one type of item or animal, and you’ll be directed to do the same thing again with a different one in the exact same scene, and there is only one.

I suppose I could see how a small child might enjoy Hidden Bunny, but the lack of variety in locations and the way everything is so poorly put-together really make this seem like a shoddy and amateurish product. For a mere $1, I suppose this could be worse, but it’s definitely not a game I would recommend.

tl;dr – Hidden Bunny is a family-friendly “Hidden Object”-style Puzzle game where players search for all of the bunnies (or another designated object) within a set scene. Unfortunately, this game seems shoddily-constructed, and with only one location it will get old very quickly, even for the small children who are likely the only ones who will appreciate this game.

Grade: D
