Review:
Hitori Logic, released on the Nintendo Switch in 2021, is a collection of 90 Hitori-style puzzles. These puzzles are similar to Sudoku, but the rules here are a bit different – rather than filling in missing numbers, players are given a chart that is already fully filled in with numbers, and must remove numbers by marking them red so that each row and column has no repeating numbers. Additionally, red squares cannot have sides touching (diagonals are fine) and all remaining squares must have sides connecting them continuously. Players can also opt to mark squares in green for their own reference, but this has no effect on whether or not the puzzle is solved.
You’re welcome, I just explained the rules of this game to you better than Hitori Logic does.
The presentation here is decent but unspectacular, featuring clean numbers backed by hand-drawn art of various food items (I have no clue why), with both a light and dark theme. This is backed by a plucky, slightly annoying instrumental theme.
And as far as Puzzle games go, this is… okay. Once you know how the rules work, this is fine, and makes for a decent time-waster, but isn’t especially compelling. It definitely doesn’t have the same sort of hook you feel from games like Sudoku and Picross, but it’s a decent enough distraction. This version of the game is lacking touchscreen controls, which seem ideally-suited for this sort of thing, but even without them, the traditional gamepad controls work fine too.
That’s pretty much all there is to say about Hitori Logic. It’s not a bad Puzzle game, but not a very compelling one either. If you’re looking for something to kill time for a few minutes here and there, it’ll suffice. But don’t expect anything as compelling as some of the better games in the genre.
tl;dr – Hitori Logic is a Puzzle game similar to games like Sudoku and Picross, where players are removing numbers from a grid instead of adding them. It’s a decent time-waster, but not especially compelling.
