Review:
Human Rocket Person is a Platformer that seems like it was created by someone messing around in a game design software to see what they could do, and immediately packaged the thing to sell when they landed on something even remotely amusing.
When I say that this game is rough, please understand that I mean it. The game feels like it was put together using ugly free assets the developer had at hand, the concept doesn’t really make any sense, and the idea that this was all intentional doesn’t really pass muster – this is a horrible mess of a game, and no amount of claiming “it’s intentionally random because funny!” will convince me otherwise.
That said, it kinda’ almost… works? Almost. Players play as an odd sort of superhero who bounces on a pogo stick and propels himself using rainbow farts in a landscape filled with random… stuff. The actual gameplay itself nearly approaches something fun, with the unique physics of the game requiring players to carefully consider the angle they hit the ground, and at its best, this game can provide some really unique platforming fun.
Unfortunately, the game is rarely at its best. Platforming in this game is already pretty difficult as-is, with it very easy to lose control. When the game very quickly progresses to demanding that the player do precision platforming with this setup, it just becomes punishing. And once the rainbow fart propulsion becomes required, the game just stops being fun altogether, as it feels damn near impossible to control this move.
I give the folks behind Human Rocket Person credit for creating something unique and original. However, just tossing in a bunch of random stuff and acting like “oh aren’t we wacky!” doesn’t really pass as humor, and giving players an odd and awkward control scheme requires a deft hand with design that clearly was not present here. Despite some interesting ideas, this game is not really worth playing.
tl;dr – Human Rocket Person is a Platformer with unique and difficult controls as they play a man on a pogo stick judging his angle to set up his jumps. Unfortunately, the game is far too difficult to be enjoyable, and everything about the game comes off as messy, unpolished, and amateurish.
