Review:

Indie Gems Bundle – Nonograms Edition, released on Nintendo Switch in 2020, is a Compilation of two Picross Puzzle games: PictoQuest (previously released on the Nintendo Switch in 2019) and Piczle Cross Adventure (previously released on the Nintendo Switch in 2020).

Here is what I thought of each game in this collection:

GameGenre# of PlayersGrade
PictoQuestPicross Puzzle1C-
tl;drPictoQuest is a take on Picross that presents itself like an RPG. Unfortunately, the challenge level is wildly inconsistent, and with so many other Picross options on the Switch, it’s hard to recommend this one.
Piczle Cross AdventurePicross Puzzle1B
tl;drPiczle Cross Adventure is a solid Picross Puzzle game that doesn’t do anything extraordinary for the genre, but nevertheless features well-crafted gameplay for the genre, with the only major flaw here being the lack of touchscreen support. Otherwise, this is an excellent entry in the genre.

In short, we have one solid Picross Puzzle game, tethered to one that has some problems with its difficulty level. If you’re looking to get a lot of Picross and trying to get the most bang for your buck, this may be worth a look, though you won’t be saving too much – at $17, this package only costs $3 less than it would cost to buy these games separately.

With this being the case, I’d argue that unless you’re looking to get every Picross game on the Nintendo Switch, you’re better off skipping the Indie Gems Bundle – Nonograms Edition, buying Piczle Cross Adventure separately, and not bothering with PictoQuest. You’ll be getting the better game out of this collection and have some extra money to spend on a better second Picross game… or something else entirely.

tl;dr – Indie Gems Bundle – Nonograms Edition is a compilation of PictoQuest and Piczle Cross Adventure, two Picross Puzzle games. However, Piczle Cross Adventure is clearly the better game of the two, and you’re not saving much money by getting this bundle. I’d recommend just getting Piczle Cross Adventure on its own and skipping this bundle.
