Review:
Invisigun Reloaded is a Top-Down Action game with a heavy focus on multiplayer Arcade-style combat. The twist in this game is that all players are invisible until they shoot and reveal themselves. Players will have to watch for signs in the environment that can hint them as to where enemies are.
It’s a decent concept, and Screencheat: Unplugged already previously made an attempt at the idea, though I’d argue that Invisigun succeeds in some areas where Screencheat didn’t… although the opposite is true too.
On the positive side of things, being a top-down 2D game makes it easier to take in the entire arena to watch for changes. However, the flipside of things is that players in Invisigun cannot see their own characters, meaning that often the only way to move forward intelligently is to do something to reveal yourself. That’s arguably a part of this game’s strategy, though it can be a bit frustrating at times. That said, this game can get pretty fun to play, especially when you manage to get the drop on another player, or succeed into fooling them to think that you’re somewhere you’re not.
One of the areas where this game absolutely excels is in its list of options – this game has 12 characters with their own unique special ability, 7 game modes, 72 maps, the ability to add in bots… honestly, barring a map builder, I can’t think of much this game is missing in the options area.
The presentation here is good too, with pixellated graphics that have a lot of little details to show off subtleties in characters’ movements, like footsteps in water and snow. The soundtrack is pretty good as well.
In the end, Invisigun Reloaded isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea – it can be frustrating to play a game where a large part of the point is that you can’t see your own character. However, for those who have the patience for this concept, this game makes for a great game of cat and mouse that’s ideally-suited for multiplayer, with an abundance of modes and options to keep things fun and interesting. If you’re looking for a good competitive party game for the Switch, this is a solid choice.
tl;dr – Invisigun Reloaded is a Top-Down Action game where players are all invisible until they do something to give themselves away. The fact that you can’t see your own character unless you slip up may not appeal to everyone, but those who don’t mind this annoying side-effect of the premise will find this game to be a superb competitive action game.
