Review:
Jewel Rotation is a match-4 Puzzle game that has a square field of different-colored gems, and has players spinning concentric rings in that square to line up matches.
This game’s colorful visuals look about as generic as generic gets. There’s nothing wrong with them, but there is nothing about this game’s graphics that are memorable. At the very least they’re fairly well-suited to the gameplay. I could do without the repetitive music, though.
As for the gameplay itself, when using a controller, Jewel Rotation is awkward and unintuitive, with players shifting between layers, but also shifting which side of each layer they’re on, and the side they’re on changes how the controls to spin it work. It’s a mess, and I feel like there had to be a better way to do this. At the very least I can say the touchscreen controls work, but the layers are so tiny that if you have fat fingers it may be easy to move the wrong column while you play.
When you get past the game’s controls, the gameplay is fine I suppose, but it’s repetitive and completely lacking any of that addictive feeling you look for in puzzle games. I feel like this may be due to the requirement that matches have four jewels instead of three, which pretty much necessitates having all four layers match, making it feel like more of a chore to get everything lined up.
With a generic look, problematic controls, and stale gameplay, there’s not much to recommend here in Jewel Rotation. There are plenty of other better Puzzle games to play on the Switch.
tl;dr – Jewel Rotation is a Puzzle game that has you rotating concentric rings of jewels in a square playfield to match four in a row. Unfortunately, the game’s look is generic, its controls are terrible, and the gameplay is boring. This game isn’t worth your time or money.
