Review:
Justin Danger is a simple Platformer released on mobile devices in 2018 and ported to Nintendo Switch in 2021. This game has players running and jumping their way through simple levels, avoiding hazards and enemies and collecting coins, all while trying to see how far they can get.
The presentation here is fairly good, if a bit simple, with simple 2D visuals in an angular design, backed by a simple lighthearted soundtrack that occasionally dips into sounding a bit adventurous… but nothing here is especially noteworthy or memorable.
The gameplay here is so simple and straightforward this game almost could have been an Auto-Runner, but players do have full control over their ability to stop or turn back – they just have little reason to ever do so. This could have been a decent little simple Platformer, but that potential is ruined by sluggish controls that do not react nearly as quickly as they need to for a game that’s clearly about simple fast-paced gameplay.
I suppose I should also mention that this game has players unlocking new character skins as they keep playing and earning in-game coins, and these different skins actually bring with them a different set of levels, but none are drastically different in the way they play, only in the layout of platforms and difficulty of enemies and obstacles.
There’s not much else to say about Justin Danger. This is a very simple game. It could have been a fun but shallow distraction in between other, more significant releases, but unfortunately the sluggish controls make even that low level of fun something beyond this game’s reach. If you’re looking for a simple, inexpensive Platformer, you have countless better options on the Nintendo Switch.
tl;dr – Justin Danger is a simple Platformer that’s almost like an Auto-Runner in its simplistic design. Unfortunately, the sluggish controls sap what little potential this game had as a fun distraction, and as a result, you’re better off looking elsewhere for a fun and inexpensive Platformer on Nintendo Switch.
