Review:
Croc’s World is a Platformer that was pretty clearly inspired by the original Super Mario Bros., and by “clearly inspired”, I mean if it were any clearer lawyers would have to be involved. Players play a protagonist who moves from the left to the right, jumps on goombas snails to subdue them, jumps up to hit question mark star blocks to get a mushroom helmet that allows him to break through weaker blocks when he hits their underside, and this can be powered up again with a fire flower bag of rocks that enables your character to chuck fireballs rocks at enemies.
Croc’s World features a cartoony, colorful presentation that’s fine, albeit completely lacking in personality. This is paired with one annoying, repetitive song that will have you reaching for the mute button within minutes of starting.
I always say that a copycat game is fine, so long as it’s a good copycat, and even though Croc’s World is attempting to copy a game that came out 35 years ago, Super Mario Bros. is still nevertheless a classic and a decent copycat game of that classic would deserve some degree of praise. However, Croc’s World is not a decent copycat.
To put it simply, the level design here is repetitive and unimaginative, the in-game physics are dull and lacking nuance, and the entire game feels very much like the mobile port that it is. And while there’s nothing actively terrible about it, save for its complete lack of originality, there’s also not a single thing noteworthy about it either.
In the end, Croc’s World attempts to copy a 35 year-old classic and still manages to give us an inferior product. This is a lazy knockoff of a Platformer that is not worth your time.
tl;dr – Croc’s World is a Platformer that is a lazy copycat of the original Super Mario Bros., and a poor one at that. It’s not worth your time.
