Review:
Cybxus Hearts, in some places simply called Cybxus Heart, is a Shmup released on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2020 and ported to PlayStation 4 in 2021. This game has players taking the role of a trio of characters rotating around a central core they need to protect.
This game features a pretty bland presentation, with a repetitive 3D corridor in the background and uninspired 2D enemies. This is backed by energetic electronic music that works well for the game, but isn’t really all that memorable.
As for the gameplay, this is pretty standard stuff for the genre. The one unique mechanic here is the character-swapping mechanic, but odds are good you’ll find one favorite among the group and stick with them most of the time. The other characters act as backup artillery, but only the character in the lead benefits from weapon power-ups. The game includes “extra” modes, but this is just a version of the same game where you only play as one of the three characters.
I don’t really have much else to say about Cybxus Hearts. It’s not a bad Bullet Hell Shmup, but it’s not a great one either. There’s not really anything extraordinary about it, but nothing truly terrible either. For the $5 price tag, it’s fine, but you can do better.
tl;dr – Cybxus Hearts is a Bullet Hell Shmup where you swap between 3 characters. There’s not really much else to say about it. It’s fine, but nothing special. For $5, you can do worse, but you could do better, too.
