Review:
De Blob 2 is a 3D Platformer that was originally released on multiple platforms in 2011, and I’d argue that it is an improvement on its predecessor in just about every way.
Being originally released on platforms without motion controls meant that the game’s designers could focus on more traditional controls, and the result feels much better and more responsive.
In addition to this, the game’s levels are more densely-packed, making it feel like there’s a lot more to do. On top of this, the game has an RPG-like progression system, and there are a few different type of tasks to do here, including 2D Puzzle-Platforming areas, that combine to make the game feel far less repetitive than its predecessor.
For those not familiar with the game, you play a blob named… well, Blob, who is tracking down the antagonist from the first game to try to stop him before he can wreak more havoc. In his pursuit, he’ll be spreading color back to the lands and freeing the captured residents of the land.
The game’s visuals have been updated for the Switch release, but otherwise the game is much as it was eight years ago. Those looking for something new will be disappointed, but at the very least this is a second chance for those who missed it the first time.
I kinda’ feel like De Blob 2 is the game that the first De Blob should have been. It takes the great premise of the fight game, tightens up the controls and level design and adds in a bit of variety, and the result is a fun, lively, lighthearted experience that fans of platformers will definitely want to check out.
tl;dr – De Blob 2 is a port of a 3D platformer originally released on multiple platforms in 2011, with players controlling a blob bouncing around levels to splash color onto the monochrome surroundings. This game is much-improved over its predecessor, with better controls and level design, and more variety. This is a solid 3D platformer with a fun, unique premise, well worth checking out.
