Review:

Devious Dungeon Collection, released on Nintendo Switch in 2020, is a Compilation of Devious Dungeon, released on Nintendo Switch in 2018, and Devious Dungeon 2, released on Nintendo Switch in 2019. Both of these games are available on multiple other platforms, and began their life nearly a half a decade prior to their release on Nintendo Switch, first releasing on mobile devices.

Here is what I thought of both of the games in this collection:

GameGenre# of PlayersGrade
Devious DungeonAction-Platformer1C
tl;drDevious Dungeon is an Action-Platformer with some light Roguelike elements that has players delving into a dungeon and collecting loot to power up their character. This game is very similar to Rogue Legacy, but unfortunately it’s also far, far inferior to that game in just about every way, with the main problem here being dull, monotonous, repetitive gameplay. You’re much better off going with Rogue Legacy or another game in the genre instead.
Devious Dungeon 2Action-Platformer1C
tl;drDevious Dungeon 2, like its predecessor, is an Action-Platformer with some light Roguelike elements that has players delving into a dungeon and collecting loot to power up their character. Unfortunately, this game is only a marginal improvement over the first game when it needed a major overhaul to compete with the likes of Rogue Legacy. Once again, the gameplay here is limited and repetitive, and you’re much better off going with something else.

As I said in my full review of Devious Dungeon 2, the second game feels more like a Devious Dungeon 1.5 than a full-fledged sequel, meaning that players will get a pretty consistent experience in both of these games. Unfortunately, that experience is consistently underwhelming, with repetitive action and not very much player choice when upgrading your character. Throughout my time playing both of these games I found myself wanting to be playing other similar games like Rogue Legacy or Dead Cells instead.

For those who opt to get this Compilation package, you’ll be shaving $3 off the $16 cost to get both of these games separately, which isn’t a huge deal, but it’s not terrible either. I can’t help but feel like this package is still overpriced at $12.99, given how basic and repetitive these games are.

And that’s pretty much Devious Dungeon Collection in a nutshell. These two games aren’t terrible, but they’re both fairly mediocre and it’s hard to recommend either of them with better alternatives on the market, and this Compilation doesn’t do enough to sweeten the deal. In the end, I think you’re better off getting one of the other games I mentioned.

tl;dr – Devious Dungeon Collection is a Compilation of Devious Dungeon and Devious Dungeon 2. Both games are mediocre Action-Platformers with light Roguelike elements that are too repetitive and limited to compete with other similar games on the market, and this Compilation doesn’t offer enough of a discount to make up for that fact.
