Review:

Diablo Prime Evil Collection, released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2021, is a Compilation of Diablo III: Eternal Collection, first released on Nintendo Switch in 2018 after releasing on multiple other platforms, and Diablo II: Resurrected, released on the same platforms as this collection and on the same day. In addition to these two games, this bundle also includes a pair of exclusive cosmetic items for Diablo III.

I have previously reviewed both of these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:

GameGenre# of PlayersGrade
Diablo III Eternal CollectionTop-Down Action-RPG1-4 Co-Op (Local, Local Wireless, Online), Online LeaderboardsA+
tl;drDiablo III is the loot-hunting Action-RPG that is currently the standard for the genre, and this is an excellent port that sacrifices little in the transition to the Switch and even adds in a few things. This is one of the best co-op games on the Switch, whether you’re sitting on the same couch or playing online, and it has a huge wealth of content. If you do not already have this game on another platform, you should definitely consider getting the Switch version.
Diablo II: ResurrectedTop-Down Action-RPG1-4 Co-Op (Online)C
tl;drDiablo II: Resurrected is a remastered version of the classic Action-RPG from 2000. Unfortunately, time has not been kind to this game, nor has the port to consoles, and neither has the fact that the sequel, Diablo III, has been available on the Nintendo Switch for years now and is a much better game. While there is still some fun to be had in Diablo II, only those with nostalgia for this game’s original release would find this game worth playing when they can just play more Diablo III instead.

I have very strong and differing opinions on these two games, as you can see. I think that Diablo III is an outstanding port of an amazing game, resulting in one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch… and I think that Diablo II is a massive disappointment, a game that’s horribly dated and suffers from terrible control issues and an underwhelming port of a game that was only really meant to work on PC.

With such a disparate gap in quality between the two games, you would think that Diablo II would drag down this Compilation, but it very clearly adds to this package in a way that is absolutely undeniable, and that comes down to the price. You see, Diablo: Prime Evil Collection is priced at $60… the same price that Diablo III: Eternal Collection sells for on its own. In other words, buying this Compilation is like buying Diablo III, one of the best games on Nintendo Switch… and getting Diablo II tossed in with it for free. Granted, the prices may vary when these games go on sale, but the point still stands that the value in Diablo: Prime Evil Collection is so undeniable that it overrides any flaws in one of the two included games.

In short, If you’re looking for a great loot-focused Top-Down Action-RPG on Nintendo Switch, Diablo III is an absolute must-have… and if you’re getting Diablo III on the Nintendo Switch, you might as well go ahead and get the Diablo: Prime Evil Collection instead – for the same price as Diablo III, you’re getting Diablo III… its less-fantastic predecessor… and a few nice cosmetic items. By default that makes this package better than Diablo III on its own, which in turn makes this Collection one of the best things to own on Nintendo Switch.

tl;dr – Diablo Prime Evil Collection is a Compilation that includes the absolute must-have Top-Down Action-RPG Diablo III: Eternal Collection, as well as the massively disappointing Diablo II: Resurrected, along with a few nice cosmetic items. While this is an uneven package, the price is so good that anyone buying Diablo III on the Nintendo Switch (and you really should) is better off getting this package instead, as it includes more content for the same price.

Grade: A+
