Review:

Doubles Hard is a character-based Puzzle game that plays very much like the classic game Lode Runner, albeit with the added twist that players can rotate the game’s cube-shaped levels to explore them in three dimensions.

Graphically, this game looks okay but a bit bland and generic, especially with your character just being a little red ball with eyes. And this game’s music is… oh, never mind, there is no music. Yeah, this game could have used more work on its presentation.

In terms of gameplay, players are kinda’ left to figure out how the game works on their own, making the relatively simple premise needlessly confusing. What’s more, this game’s controls felt somewhat sluggish and unresponsive, adding an extra layer of frustration to the game. And once you get past all of that… this is still basically just a take Lode Runner, nothing truly revolutionary.

I have nothing against Lode Runner, and Doubles Hard taking the game and adding in a third dimension is a promising formula, but in the end, the lack of polish in the presentation and controls make it harder to enjoy this game than it should be, and the game itself is nothing spectacular. Some fans of puzzle games may find this diverting, but otherwise it’s not very noteworthy.

tl;dr – Doubles Hard is a character-based Puzzle game that takes the gameplay of Lode Runner and brings it into the third dimension with cube-shaped levels that can be spun around. This simple concept is complicated by poor controls and a lack of information provided to the player, and the presentation is underwhelming.
