Genre: Party Game
Players: 3-8 Competitive (Local) (4 Recommended)
.
Review:
Drawful 2 is a Party Game where players are given prompts like Pictionary, and must then draw it, with the other players suggesting potential answers and trying to guess which answer out of everyone’s suggestions is the correct one.
Players play the game not with a game controller, but with their smartphone or internet-connected device with a current browser. The game creates a private room on the Jackbox.tv website that players log into using a four-letter code on their own personal devices. This way, every player has their own private screen to feed them information, input responses, and make their own drawings.
This method of play means that even though the game is played locally, the Nintendo Switch must be connected online to work properly, and every player must have their own browser-capable internet-connected device, although on the bright side, it is a multiplayer game that does not require more than one single controller.
I should note that while this game offers options to play with family-friendly prompts, even these prompts may result in players to creating their own mature content in their responses, so this may not be the best game to play with little ones.
Those considering this game may want to consider checking out the very first game in The Jackbox Party Pack series, which contains the first Drawful, along with four other games. While that pack is more expensive, at $25, that may prove to be a better deal than the $10 this one game costs.
While Drawful 2 plays pretty much exactly like the first game, that’s not to say that there aren’t differences and improvements here. Drawful 2 has more options, including the ability for players to submit their own prompts, as well as several other smaller improvements. Being able to create custom prompts gives this game a lot more potential to last longer, making this a small but noteworthy improvement over the original.
While it’s debatable how good a value Drawful 2 is given that it’s so similar to its predecessor, which features in The Jackbox Party Pack, a package that’s arguably a better deal. However, it’s still a superb Party Game that’s well worth playing if you’re a fan of the original, or if you don’t want to spend the extra cash to get the full Jackbox Party Pack.
tl;dr – Drawful 2 is a Party Game that players play using their Smartphone instead of a controller. This game challenges players to use their touchscreens to sketch out various prompts and then vote on what other players’ prompts are depicting. This game is a noteworthy improvement over the original, but it’s debatable whether the $10 for this one game is a better value than the $25 for The Jackbox Party Pack containing the first Drawful. Regardless, this is an excellent Party Game, and fans of the genre should certainly get at least one of the games in this series.
