Dungeon Rushers is a Turn-Based RPG with Dungeon Crawler elements first released on PC in 2016 before being ported to numerous other platforms, with the game coming to Nintendo Switch in 2018. This game has players raiding dungeons and hunting for treasure in a medieval fantasy setting.
Unfortunately, that’s about all the description you’re going to get here, because that’s pretty much all there is. The various characters in this game are all hopping from dungeon to dungeon trying to get treasure, and that’s pretty much as deep as the story goes. It does at least try to have a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor about itself, but I wouldn’t actually say this game was funny. More that it doesn’t take itself too seriously.
The visuals in this game use somewhat pixellated 2D art for its characters, against a 2D background. Nothing really all that noteworthy or interesting. The animations aren’t especially good, but they’re not horrible either. This is paired with a really subdued soundtrack for a game that otherwise shows every sign of wanting to be lighthearted.
As for the gameplay, this game has players moving through a dungeon in a way that vaguely resembles a Dungeon Crawler, but the combat is handled like a traditional turn-based RPG. Neither of these elements is done in any particular noteworthy or interesting way, and neither of them really capitalizes on the strengths of its respective genre. Every time of a dungeon is hidden from you until you step on it, which makes it all seem random and defeats the purpose of exploring altogether, and the combat is pretty bland and unimaginative.
In the end, Dungeon Rushers is in pretty much every way an unspectacular RPG, and one that does nothing to distinguish itself in the genre beyond incorporating half-baked Dungeon Crawler elements. There are countless better RPGs on Nintendo Switch, get one of those instead.
tl;dr – Dungeon Rushers is a Turn-Based RPG with Dungeon Crawler elements. It does neither of these things in an especially good or memorable way. There are plenty of other RPGs more worthy of your attention on the Nintendo Switch, don’t bother with this one.
