Ethan: Meteor Hunter is a Puzzle-Platformer where you play an anthropomorphic rat with the ability to freeze time and manipulate and move objects while time is frozen. The game has occasional levels that are just plain platforming, but for the most part you’ll be making use of your time manipulation ability to get past obstacles.

It’s a good concept, but it’s one that runs into a few problems. For starters, the game is extremely stingy with your use of the game’s central special ability. Often times, you’ll find that you have exactly the number of uses you need to solve a puzzle, and a single slip-up means you need to re-start the puzzle from the beginning. Suffice it to say, this can make the game really tedious, especially when you’re dealing with a tricky puzzle that can be easily messed up.

The other problem is, this game is does not have an enticing presentation at all. There’s nothing horrible, but the characters, locations, and music all feels about as generic as possible, and I really had a hard time feeling compelled to continue through particularly challenging puzzles when I just didn’t care about anything in the game.

There are some good ideas in Ethan: Meteor Hunter, but overall what’s good about this game is given in extremely limited quantities, and the rest is engulfed by mediocrity.

tl;dr – Ethan: Meteor Hunter is a Puzzle-Platformer where you can freeze time and move parts of the environment around to solve puzzles. It’s a good concept, but the game is stingy with your use of the central mechanic, and everything else about the game is mediocre. Only the most diehard fans of puzzle-platformer should bother with this one.
