Review:

Exception is a Platformer where players play as an anthropomorphized virus invading a computer system, which takes the form of a fast-paced Platformer where players jump off walls and get to various points in the level where the level shifts and transforms to open new pathways.

This game’s visuals and sound are decent, but nothing spectacular. There’s a unique neon look to the game, and the game uses a fitting electronic techno soundtrack, but it’s all pretty forgettable, and none of it really justifies the 4.5GB file size of this game.

The gameplay itself features some good skillful physics-based platforming a la N+ or Super Meat Boy. Unfortunately, this gameplay is severely hampered by some control issues, where the game sometimes fails to register a wall jump, or alternately automatically makes the player do one if they were holding the jump button prior to landing on the wall. These sorts of issues are fairly frequent, and really break up the flow of what would otherwise be a solid Platformer.

In the end, Exception is a game that had potential to be a pretty good skill-based Platformer, but is hampered by control issues and a forgettable presentation that’s far more demanding of space in your Nintendo Switch’s memory than it should be. Fans of Platformers still might want to give it a look, but most should probably just move on.

tl;dr – Exception is a skill-based Platformer where players are jumping around on neon-infused levels that warp around as the player gets to certain points. Unfortunately, the presentation isn’t very memorable, and the otherwise good gameplay is broken by control issues.
