Review:
Factotum is, as best I can tell, a game that started out on the Wii U in 2015 before being re-released as Factotum 90 and brought to multiple other platforms, finally making it full circle back to Nintendo’s next console when it was brought to the Nintendo Switch in 2020. This is a puzzle game where players guide robotic drones to perform tasks on a derelict spacecraft.
The presentation here is not likely to impress anyone. Dated, boring-looking 3D visuals depicting repetitive environments with an annoying static filter are the order of the day, and at the very least they’re accompanied by some decent voicework for the person on the ship giving you direction.
As for the puzzles themselves, this is fairly standard stuff – move boxes, press buttons, ho hum. The one bit of originality here is that players control more than one of these drones at once and must switch between them. The puzzle design here is decent enough but, again, there’s nothing really mind-blowing going on here, and the entire game is brought down a notch by the robots’ slow movement speed that makes the pacing drag.
Overall, if you’re a Puzzle game fan, you may find Factotum 90 to be an enjoyable but largely unoriginal and unambitious experience. The game’s slow movement and pacing leaves something to be desired, as does the underwhelming presentation, but otherwise this is a competent game that works well enough for those who enjoy the genre.
tl;dr – Factotum 90 is a Puzzle game where players guide drones to solve puzzles. It’s a fairly rudimentary but largely competent game, although the visuals are unimpressive and the slow movement speed makes the game’s pace drag. Fans of the genre still may find it worthwhile though.
