Review:
Fe is a 3D Platformer with an emphasis on puzzle solving and story, though the puzzle element isn’t so pronounced that I’d consider this a Puzzle-Platformer. There’s still a fair amount of platforming and exploration here. However, much of that seems like a good excuse to show off the game’s beautiful presentation.
Fe is a pretty game to look at, with surreal alien landscapes that are very colorful and imaginatively rendered. The game’s sound plays a large part of the game too, with various unique and loveable animal sounds that actually play an important part of the gameplay too. In addition, players are slowly introduced to a story about what appear to be hostile robot invaders by inspecting the remains of some of them through the course of the game. This forms the core of what this game is about.
That’s just as well too, because the platforming in this game is at times a bit too loose, and the environments are often difficult to parse which makes finding your bearings difficult without checking the map to see where you need to go.
If that were all there was to this game, Fe would be a mediocre platformer, but the compelling visuals and presentation give this something that makes it stand out, and make it worthwhile to see it through.
tl;dr – Fe is a 3D platformer with stunning visuals and a unique presentation that make it worth getting through the somewhat lacking platforming gameplay.
