Review:

FruitFall Crush is a Puzzle game originally released on Wii in Europe under the title Super Fruit Fall: Deluxe Edition, and then ported to Nintendo Switch in 2017. In this game, players rotate a game board filled with different kinds of fruit to shift gravity, with the goal of connecting all of a kind of fruit to clear it, and in turn repeating this process to clear the game board.

The presentation in this game uses detailed 2D visuals for the fruit, game board, and abstract backgrounds, with a visual style that seems reminiscent of mobile games. This is backed by a repetitive and forgettable synthesized soundtrack and a somewhat stilted woman’s voice announcing the start and end of a level as well as warning you when time is running out. While this game doesn’t look bad, the presentation here is very underwhelming and feels very generic.

When it comes to the gameplay, I don’t know that there’s much to say about it. You rotate the board, the fruit falls, you try to get it so all of one kind touches. Wash, rinse, repeat. It all works, but it’s not especially compelling, and it can even be frustrating when a fruit is one square away from where you need it to be and you can’t “shake it” loose. I suppose that at the very least I can commend the game’s multiplayer modes for having one mode meant for handheld players where players each take a different side of the Nintendo Switch.

FruitFall Crush is ultimately a decent but pretty disposable Puzzle game. Unfortunately, it is not being sold at a disposable price – at $15, this game feels absurdly overpriced for something you would normally expect to play for free on mobile devices. If you want a Puzzle game on Nintendo Switch, you have tons of better options, some of which cost much less than this. Get one of those other games instead.

tl;dr – FruitFall Crush is a Puzzle game where players rotate the game board to try to get fruit to fall into position to match. It’s not a terrible Puzzle game but it is a highly disposable one, and $15 seems far too much to ask for a game this simple and forgettable.
