Review:
Funghi Explosion is a Puzzle game that’s basically a timed Match-3 game like Bejeweled, but this game is different than that one because… it uses different kinds of anthropomorphic fungus instead of different kinds of jewels.
Yeah, that’s about it. There are some details that are different, such as being able to match a 2×2 set to clear a large block, but for the most part, this is just an odd variant of Bejeweled with different theming.
As far as that theming goes… well, it’s weird. Beyond that, it’s honestly not very conducive to playing the game, in part because everything is a bit too animated, making the visuals a bit distracting so it’s harder to search for matches.
Beyond this, the game doesn’t give players many options, just an “easy” mode, a “hard” mode, and a challenge mode. It would have been nice to be able to get rid of the nasty time limit in hard mode without also being forced to be given the hints you get in easy mode.
For those looking for a fungus-themed version of Bejeweled… um… well, this is that. It’s nothing really unique or original (beyond the odd theme), and it’s not without its problems and missing features, but it’s decent enough… if you were looking for a fungus-themed version of Bejeweled.
tl;dr – Funghi Explosion is a Puzzle game that’s basically just Bejeweled but with anthropomorphic fungi instead of gemstones. The odd presentation doesn’t help the gameplay, and the game is light on options, but if you want an odd version of Bejeweled, this gets the job done.
