Review:

FutureGrind is an interesting sort of stunt racing game where you pilot a 2-wheeled vehicle through various courses, jumping from one rail to another and performing tricks while trying to avoid making a mistake.

The challenge in this game comes from the fact that the colored wheels of your vehicle can only touch rails of the same color or white rails (and white rails kill your point multiplier), and often to complete a goal you will be tasked with performing a specific sort of stunt, such as a specific sort of grind or jump.

It all seems simple and easy, but actually playing it, it feels like a complex and rewarding challenge, trying to remember which wheel you want to use at any given time, timing your jumps just right, and deciding whether to go for that one more trick before you land.

Visually, the game looks clean and colorful, and offers enough variety in backgrounds to keep things interesting. This game isn’t going to impress anyone visually, but it does enough to keep from distracting from the solid gameplay.

It’s just a shame that this game doesn’t offer anything in the way of multiplayer play or level creation tools. Hell, even the fact that these tracks are largely just horizontal stretches of straight-lined rails seems like a missed opportunity – I would have loved to see more inventive level design here.

Still, it’s hard to complain too much about FutureGrind when its gameplay is compelling, original, and accessible. If you’re looking for a fun and unique game on the Switch, this game might interest you.

tl;dr – FutureGrind is a Futuristic 2D Stunt Racing game where you race a futuristic vehicle on a series of rails, matching the rails you ride to the color of the wheel. It’s a wonderful concept that’s fun to play. I just wish there were more options here.
